Skier Killed In Avalanche On Tita Seri In Valais, Switzerland

Valais, Switzerland – On January 6, 2017  two skiers were skiing a NE facing couloir on the Tita Seri (2851 meters) above the village of Ovronnaz in the municipality of Leytron in the canton of Valais in Switzerland when one of the skiers, a 28-year-old French national, was caught, buried, and killed in an avalanche.

The avalanche was triggered at 2460 meters during the skier’s descent. It measured 12 meters wide by 400 meters long. Authorities were notified of the incident. Before the rescuers could reach the accident site, another group of skiers initiated a rescue. They found the victim buried 3 meters deep. He did not survive.
