Yosemite National Park – On Saturday, June 3, 2017 professional rock climber Alex Honnold, 31, free soloed the iconic granite wall known as El Capitan in Yosemite National Park. Honnold completed the 2,900′ climb without ropes or safety equipment in just 3 hours, 56 minutes.

Honnold started to climb Freerider (5.13a) at 5:32am and reached the top of El Capitan at 9:28am. GearJunkie.com writes that “the free-solo of El Cap has long been a holy grail in the climbing world.” This feat is truly next level.

Honnold has been training for the climb for over a year. The historic climb was documented by National Geographic and photographer Jimmy Chin and Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyifor for a feature film and magazine story.
