North Maroon Peak, Colorado – On Saturday, August 5, 2017, 57-year-old Rei Hwa Lee fell to her death while attempting to climb 14,014′ North Maroon Peak in the Elk Mountains of Colorado. On Sunday evening, Lee was reported overdue from her solo hike.

Since it was unclear what peak Lee was attempting to climb, rescuers began to search the Maroon Bells Wilderness on Monday. Members of 14ers.com reported that they saw Lee on her way to the summit of North Maroon Peak on Saturday morning.
On Tuesday morning, rescuers spotted Lee’s body on the north face of North Maroon Peak at approximately 12,600′. Her body was recovered by helicopter. It is unclear where Lee fell from.
This is the 3rd 14er fatality in recent weeks. On July 15, Jake Lord died on Capitol Peak. On August 6, Jeremy Shull died on Capitol Peak.
