Capitol Peak, Colorado – On Tuesday, August 22, 2017, the bodies of Aspen couple Ryan Marcil and Carlin Brightwell were found dead at the base of the north face of 14,137′ Capitol Peak in the Elk Mountains of Colorado. The two hikers had been missing since Sunday.

The couple set off to climb Capitol Peak on Saturday. When they did not return to Aspen on Sunday, they were reported missing by friends on Monday. Mountain Rescue Aspen initiated a rescue on Tuesday morning and located the couple at the base of Capitol Peak on Tuesday afternoon.
Experts believe that the hikers fell somewhere near the summit of Capitol Peak. These are the 3rd and 4th deaths on Capitol Peak this summer.
Capitol Peak is located in the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness in the Elk Mountains of Colorado. It is 14,137 feet or 4309 meters.
