Usseglio, Italy – On March 4, 2018 an off-piste ski was caught and buried in an avalanche near the ski area of Pian Benot near Usseglio in the Piedmont region of Italy.

The victim was skiing with a friend when the accident occurred at about 1700 meters. Rescuers located the skier because of a ski sticking out of the snow. The skier was in critical condition and was taken to the hospital in Turin. After a week in a coma, the skier died from the injuries sustained in the avalanche.
