Avalanche Kills Austrian Ski Tourer On Passo Della Forcola Near Livigno, Italy

Livigno, Italy – On March 19, 2018 a 59-year-old Austrian ski tourer was killed in an avalanche at roughly 2100 meters near the Val di Campo on Passo della Forcola in the mountains near Livigno in Sondrio in Italy.

The accident occurred near the Swiss/Italian border while four skiers in the area. The victim’s companions were not buried and were able to alert authorities. Next they initiated a rescue and recovered their friend. Rescuers arrived, but were unable to revive the skier.

The avalanche measured 100 meters wide and 150 meters long ending in a stream. The danger at the time was 3/5.
