In May 2018, Sterling Rope Company posted a Technical Notice concerning a variety of their larger spools of webbing, called “Web Wheels” that contain taped splices.
On SterlingRope.com, they write that “a taped splice is not intended to hold any load and the length of webbing with a tape splice should NEVER be used without removing the tape and separating the sections.” Read more at SterlingRope.com.
