3 Mountaineers Found Months Later Buried In Avalanche On Mount Tufandag In Azerbaijan

Mount Tufandag, Azerbaijan – On December 23, 2017, three Azerbaijani mountaineers left to climb 4191-meter Mount Tufandag in the Caucasus Mountains in Shahdag National Park near Guba in Azerbaijan. They were last heard from on December 26.

On May 18, 2018, rescuers located the three victims. They were found in their tent “at an altitude of 2,800 to 2,900 meters, at a depth of approximately 4 meters. They fell under a powerful avalanche and lost the ability to move” (APA.az).

The victims were identified as Babur Huseynov, Namin Bunyatova and Farida Djebrailzade. They were all members of the Gilavar Club – Air & Extreme Sports Club
