Cardrona Alpine Resort announced that it will soon become New Zealand’s biggest ski area. Inn July 2018 Cardrona Alpine Resort and Queenstown businessman John Darby create a new partnership that will add Soho Basin to Cardrona’s skiable terrain.
Soho Basin is essentially the south and west faces of Mount Cardrona. It will feature 500 vertical meters and 500 hectares of “high altitude skiing.” This terrain expansion will essentially double the size of Cardrona to a grand total of 900 hectares (2224 acres)!
This expansion also means that Cardrona can grow their summer operations even further. Prior to this new partnership between Cardrona and John Darby, Whakapapa on mt Ruapehu was the largest ski field.
