Andrzej Bargiel Completes First Ski Descent Of K2 (UPDATED)

K2, Karakoram – On July 22, 2018 Polish ski mountaineer Andrzej Bargiel completed the first ski descent of K2! At 8,611 meters | 28,251 ft, K2 is located in the Karakoram Range on the Pakistan/China border. It is the 2nd highest mountain in the world.

The descent is currently confirmed through a Facebook post from Bargiel seen below. According to ExplorersWeb.com, “GPS waypoints show that he left the summit by the Abruzzi route, the voie normale, then followed a line known as the Polish route down the steep and imposing south face.” His GPS points can be found at Spot.FindMeSpot.com.

Bartek Bargiel operated a drone to document the feat. He is the same drone operator who helped to save Rick Allen on Broad Peak last week. We are sure there will be plenty of great footage/images coming soon!

In 2015 Bargiel became first person to ski 8015-meter Broad Peak. In 2017, he attempted to ski K2, but turned around due to weather. This time he completed the first ski descent of K2! Congrats on this historic accomplishment!
