Snake River Range, Idaho – On January 25, 2019 a snowmobiler was killed in an avalanche near Upper Palisades Lake in the Snake River Range in eastern Idaho.

The CAIC notes that this avalanche took place near Upper Palisades Lake in the Snake River Range of Idaho on 2019/01/25. One snowmobiler was killed in the slide. Please visit CAIC for the most up-to-date information.
The Bridger-Teton Avalanche Center investigated this avalanche accident. They note that it was a snowmobile triggered soft slab accident that was a R2 D2. The slide occurred at 8799′ on a south aspect with a starting zone slope angle of 36-40 degrees. Four snowmobilers were caught and three were able to “self extricate.” The victim deployed his airbag and had a transceiver. They identified the victim as 35-year-old Tommy Hawkins.
