Avalanche Kills Snowmobiler In The La Sal Mountains Of Utah

La Sal Mountains, Utah – On January 25, 2019 a snowmobiler was caught, buried, and killed in an avalanche in Dark Canyon near Mount Mellenthin in the La Sal Mountains of Utah.

The CAIC reports that this accident occurred on 2019/01/25 in Dark Canyon in the La Sal Mountains of Utah. They note that one snowmobiler was caught, fully buried, and killed. They categorize the avalanche as a HS-AMu. It occurred at 12,200′ on an east aspect. For more info and photos please visit Avalanche.State.co.us

The UtahAvalancheCenter.com visited the site. They found that the slide occurred on a persistent weak layer. It was 4′ deep, 900′ wide, and 1500′ long.

The accident occurred in the afternoon and rescuers were unable to locate the victim until the following day.

Fox13Now.com identified the victim as 39-year-old Scott Pehrson Jr.
