Avalanche Kills Skier Near Niesen In Bern, Switzerland

Niesen, Switzerland – On February 5, 2019 a 27-year-old Swiss ski tourer was killed in an avalanche near Niesen in the Obere Staled area in the Bernese Oberland in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.

The slide occurred around 10:25 while the man was ski touring with a partner. The pair where trying to summit 2336-meter Niesen when the slide happened. One person was caught and the other remained uninjured. Rescuers responded immediately and transported the victim to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

SLF.ch reports that the avalanche occurred on 2019-02-05 in Sneeze in BE. The slide took place on a southwest aspect at 2200 meters. One person was caught, buried, and killed.
