Centennial Skiers Complete Goal Of Skiing 100 Highest Peaks In Colorado

A trio of ski mountaineers consisting of Chris Davenport, Ted Mahon, and Christy Mahon climbed and skied their way into ski mountaineering history this week. The Aspen based Centennial Skiers climbed and skied the 100 highest peaks in Colorado. Colorado is known as the Centennial State and has the highest collection of peaks in the lower 48. It took multiple years to check off all fifty-three 14,000 foot peaks and forty-seven 13,000 foot peak – an impressive feat.

We may be smiling but that’s only on the outside. Yesterday’s 37 mile r/t on 13,983′ Mt Stewart was rough but I’m with two of the most stoked people in the world @aspenchristy and @tedmahon and we are 1 peak away from completing the Centennial Peaks- the 100 highest mtns in #Colorado. All are over 13,809′ and no one had skied them all before. So today I’m off to #telluride for MountainFilm and then we head in on Monday to attempt the final peak, Jagged, which many consider the hardest in the state. We don’t even know if it has ever had a ski descent on its flanks. You can’t ski from the top as its a spine of rocky spires. So we will see. Stay Tuned….. #GoPro #kaestle #centennialskiers #lifelimitless @kastleski @redbull @scarpana @smithoptics @clifbarcompany @spyderactive @blackdiamond @backcountrycom @delormegps @lululemonmen

After years of skiing big mountains, the team topped off their epic quest on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 by skiing Jagged Peak in the Weminuche Wilderness. Jagged Peak is only accessible by train and is a multi-day approach. Timing weather windows and avalanche conditions for remote peaks like this is a challenging task, but this crew got it done. Congratulations!

Many ski mountaineers have followed the Centennial Project along on the group’s website – CentennialSkiers.com. The site has impressive trip reports, maps, photos, and even videos that you should check out. It’s an excellent resource for anyone planning to follow in their bootpacks, skin tracks, bushwhacks, and turns.

Congratulations to @SteepSkiing, @AspenChristy, and @TedMahon for completing this multi-year ski mountaineering mission. #centennialskiers
