The Avanet app gives backcountry users a way to share real-time, geo-tagged, observations and information about snow, avalanche, and weather conditions. By having access to more information backcountry travelers should be able to make better decisions in the backcountry. The Avanet app is a game changer for the mountain safety.
Designed by Avatech, the creators of the SP2 probe and the Avanet online platform, the Avanet app will allow anyone – professionals or recreational users – to find and share information about avalanche hazards, snowpack stability, and weather observations. The app also allows for:
- Route Planning and Mobile Tracking
- Crowdsourced Mountain Safety Information
- Terrain Visualization
There has never been a way for the general public to upload their backcountry observations in such a user friendly way. All it takes is to turn on the app when you leave the trailhead. You can check conditions and plan your route before you head out. The app tracks your route and you have the ability to make observations throughout the day. Upload your obs when you get back. They can be photos, videos, audio, or notes. The more information the better.
It’s up to you to decide how you want to use the crowdsourced beta. The app doesn’t replace experience and good decision making. The Avanet app is available in three versions:
- Avanet – Free – Designed for recreational mountain travelers. Includes basic maps, tour tracking, and ability to submit observations.
- Avanet Tour – $5/month – Adds visualization and route planning tools
- Avanet Pro – $10/month – Designed for guides and snow safety pros. Adds advanced route planning, observation sharing, pro data access. The Pro version is only available to pros.
