Avalanche Kills Ski Tourer On Allalin Glacier Near The Feejoch In Saas-Fee In Valais, Switzerland

Valais, Switzerland – At approximately 14:45 on April 30, 2018 a 49-year-old French ski tourer was caught, buried, and killed in an avalanche while ascending the Allalin glacier while en route to the Feejoch/Allalinhorn near Sass-Fee in Valais, Switzerland.

The pair of ski tourers were traveling from Sass-Fee towards Mittelallalin when the avalanche occurred. One ski tourer was buried and the other ski tourer alerted authorities. Rescuers responded by helicopter and transported both of the skiers to the hospital in Bern. Unfortunately, one of the skier did not survive.

SLF.ch reports that this avalanche occurred on 2018-04-30 near the Feejoch, Allainhorn in Valais. This is a north aspect at 3630 meters. Two people were caught, one person was buried, and one person was killed. The avalanche danger was 3/5. A detailed map is available.
