Tyrol, Austria – On January 19, 2019 a 67-year-old ski tourer was killed in an avalanche while ski touring from Lavant towards Laserztorl in in the Lienz Dolomites of Tyrol, Austria.

The avalanche occurred on the east aspect on the final climb to the 2,497-meter Laserztörl. The victim was skiing with his 42-year-old partner when the avalanche occurred.
The 42-year-old was able to cling to a rock and avoid getting buried. He located and extracted the 67-year-old using avalanche safety equipment. Unfortunately, the skier did not survive.
