Avalanche Kills 2 Spanish Ski Tourers Near The Aragnouet-Bielsa Tunnel In The Pyrenees Of France

Hautes-Pyrenees, France – On Saturday, March 3, 2018 two Spanish ski tourers were caught, buried, and killed in an avalanche while skiing off piste above Piau-Engaly near the entrance to the Aragnouet-Bielsa tunnel in th Pyrenees of France near the France-Spain border.

The avalanche occurred while a group of 5 ski tourers including a guide were skiing in the area. Three of the skiers managed to escape the avalanche. Two were buried. Rescuers responded to the scene with avalanche dogs and helicopters.

According to ParisMatch.com, the first person was found using an avalanche transceiver. The second person was found by rescue dogs. That skier was transported to the hospital in critical condition. According to ABCNews.go.com, the 2nd skier died in the hospital from the injuries sustained in the avalanche.
