Badakhshan, Afghanistan – On Sunday, March 12, 2017 eight gold miners were killed and 16 others were injured in an avalanche in the village of Shahr Bozorg in northeastern Badakhshan province in Afghanistan.
The avalanche struck in the afternoon while the workers were passing through the Wandiyan village. Local rescuers responded to the scene. Several of the injured are in critical condition.
Locals are requesting emergency aid from the government.
