Avalanche Kills Norwegian Skier On Sielmatjåkka In Kiruna, Sweden

Sielmatjåkka, Sweden – On Tuesday, April 3, 2018 a 58-year-old Norwegian skier was caught, buried, and killed in an avalanche on Sielmatjåkka in Kiruna, Sweden.

The avalanche occurred around 14:00 on Sielmatjåkka Peak, which is just north of Sweden’s highest mountain: Kebnekaise, and ran toward the Nallostugan Mountain Lodge near the Kungsleden Trail.

The victim was heli-skiing with four other skiers and two guides when the accident occurred (AftenPosten.no). No one else was caught in the avalanche. His companions were able to locate and extract him from the snow.

Rescuers and avalanche dogs responded. The man was then transported to the hospital where he died.
