Valemount, British Columbia, Canada – On Friday, December 30, 2016 a male snowmobiler was caught, buried, and killed in an avalanche in the Clemina Creek area of the North Monashees south of Valemount, British Columbia.

According to CBC.ca, the incident occurred after one snowmobiler got stuck on a slope. Two other snowmobilers approached on foot to help the stuck sledder, but their “combined weight may have caused the avalanche.” Avalanche.ca wrote on 31 December 2016 in their North Columbia forecast that the slide was “triggered by a rider on a wind-loaded feature, and potentially released on the mid-December interface.”

SAR and RCMP were notified of the incident and responded. Due to unstable conditions, search efforts were put on hold until conditions were safe. Castanet.net writes that “Avalanche control crews from Jasper have been called to assist the SAR team.” The body was recovered on Saturday.

Avalanche Canada notes that avalanche danger was rated at “considerable” on 30 December 2016.

We will try to update this post as more information becomes available.

Update 1/6: CBC.ca confirms that the man killed in the avalanche was Joshuah Maurice Bradshaw, 27, of Edmonton.
