Lofoten, Norway – On Sunday, April 1, 2018 a skier was killed in an avalanche on Sydalsfjellet near the municipality of Vågan in Nordland in the district of Lofoten in Norway.
Another skier alerted authorities about the avalanche. Rescuers and search dogs responded to the scene via helicopters. The rescue was challenging due to avalanche conditions. The victim was located after about an hour. He was confirmed dead at the scene by rescue crews.
According to TV2.no the avalanche ran about 200 meters. There were many ski tracks on the slope, but the victim was the only person caught in the slide.
