Freeride World Tour Competitor and RedBull Athlete Matilda Rapaport Dies In Hospital After Avalanche Accident In Chile
Santiago, Chile – On Thursday, July 14, 2016 Freeride World Tour competitor and RedBull athlete Matilda Rapaport, 30, was caught in an avalanche while filming footage for a new video game from Ubisoft called Steep. The avalanche accident occurred near Farellones, Chile. She later died from her injuries at the hospital in Santiago.

SnowBrains.com reports that the accident happened while Rapaport was heli-skiing. According to LeMatin.ch, Rapaport was buried for close to 30 minutes before being rescued. And UnofficialNetworks.com writes that the “total elapsed time between burial and arrival a the hospital was 90 minutes.” The main injury appeared to be lack of oxygen and not external injuries. She was evacuated to the hospital in Santiago where she was in a coma.
Unfortunately as of Monday morning, reports from FWT say that Matilda Rapaport did not survive her injuries. She passed away at the hospital in Santiago, Chile. Her husband, Swedish Skier Mattias Hargin, and mother were with her. The mountain community has lost another great athlete. RIP.
