Mont Blanc – After numerous fatalities and accidents on Mont Blanc, the mayor of St. Gervais signed a law that all climbers must carry the minimal Mont Blanc kit requirements while climbing the Gouter Route on Mont Blanc. These kit requirements will go into effect immediately and will be enforced.

According to Chamonet.com, the new Mont Blanc kit requirements as of August 18, 2017 include:
- Helmet
- Head torch
- 2 pairs of gloves (1 light, 1 warm)
- Gaiters
- Warm, waterproof (Gore Tex) jacket, socks, fleece, waterproof trousers
- Mountaineering-specific boots and crampons
- Harness and crevasse rescue equipment
- Rope
- Ice axe
- Walking poles
- GPS or altimeter
- Hat, glacier sunglasses, sun cream, ski mask

It looks like the days of climbing Mont Blanc in shorts and sneakers is over. If you’re heading to Mont Blanc, maybe the best plan of attack is to hire a mountain guide? Or according to Kilian Jornet, you can still do this if you climb Mont Blanc from the Italian side:
