Rock Fall Kills Climber On El Capitan In Yosemite National Park

Yosemite National Park – On Wednesday, September 28, 2017 a massive chunk of rock fell off of El Capitan in Yosemite National Park. Approximately 30 climbers were on the granite face at the time of the incident. Unfortunately, one climber was killed and another was injured in the rock fall.

NPS.gov notes that the rock fall occurred about 13:55. It released near the Waterfall Route on the East Buttress of El Capitan. Yosemite Rangers and SAR plan to assess the situation. The park currently remains open.
