Rangeley, Maine – On Wednesday, June 28, 2017 Majella Group of Australia agreed to purchase Saddleback Mountain in Maine from long time owners Bill and Irene Berry. The private sale was for an undisclosed amount and the goal is to “transform Saddleback into the premier ski resort in North America” (WCYY.com).
The deal should finalize later this summer. Majella Group notes in their press release that the “purchase includes all holdings of Saddleback Mountain Resort, including the resort, base lodge, ski lifts and surrounding timberland, totaling 6,337 acres.” Plans include replacing old lifts, adding lodging, restaurants, and on-mountain activities. The new infrastructure will ideally turn Saddleback into a premier ski resort and a 4-season destination.
Saddleback is Maine’s 3rd largest ski area and was the region’s largest employer. It was owned by the Berry’s since 2003 and they have been trying to sell it since 2012 (Wikipedia.com).
