An Avalanche In The Haute Savoie Near La Clusaz, France Killed A Backcountry Ski Tourer
At approximately 9:30 AM on Saturday, January 30, 2016 a 45 year old man from Sallanches was killed in an avalanche while ski touring in the valley of Grand Crêt in the Aravis Mountain Range of the French Alps. This popular backcountry ski area is located near La Clusaz in the Haute Savoie.

Authorities were notified of the avalanche. Two helicopters, four dog handlers, thirty rescuers, and many volunteers helped to search the area. The skier was found quickly and transported to a hospital in Annecy, where he later died of his injuries.
The avalanche occurred at approximately 2100 meters. It was 300 meters wide. The avalanche risk was 4 of 5 above 2000 meters.
