Skier Missing After Falling Through Snow Bridge On Mount Rainier In Washington (UPDATED)

Mount Rainier National Park, Washington – On Monday, July 3, 2017 a 30-year-old skier from Washington went missing after falling through a snow bridge over Pebble Creek while descending from Camp Muir (10188′) to Paradise (5400′) on Mount Rainier (14410′) in Washington.

His ski partner search for the man using an avalanche probe for 2 hours, but was unable to located him. He then skied down to Paradise to report the incident to NPS rangers.

Authorities initiated a search on Monday night and conducted an aerial search on Tuesday. At this point, there has been no trace of the missing skier.

Update 7/6:

  • Change.org identifies the missing skier as Dmitri Pajitnov. There is also a GoFundMe site dedicated to resuming the search.

UPDATE 8/24:

  • According to SnowBrains.com, the body of Dmitri Pajitnov was found at the base of a waterfall approximately 30 meters from where he went missing. The body was recovered on August 19, 2017.
