SacBee.com reports that “authorities got pings off “the last known location of his cellphone in a (high-risk) avalanche area,” said Lt. Troy Sander of the Placer County Sheriff’s Office.” Over four feet of snow have fallen since May went missing. The Tahoe area was under an avalanche warning through Saturday morning.

Over 50 rescuers from six different agencies have focused their search on a popular backcountry area outside of the Sugar Bowl Resort ski area boundaries in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The rescue team consists of avalanche dogs, skiers, snowmobiles, snowcats, and ski patrollers. They are being very careful due to the high avalanche danger in areas that need to be searched.

May, 23, is a ski instructor at Sugar Bowl’s Mountain Sports Learning Center ski school. He was last seen wearing a Blue Columbia Jacket, Bright Green Pants, and a Blue Helmet.

Cross your fingers that this has a happy ending.
