Three Climbers Caught In Avalanche On Ben Nevis in Scotland

Ben Nevis, Scotland – At approximately 12:15 on Saturday, February 4, 2017, three climbers were injured in an avalanche on Ben Nevis in the Grampian Mountains in the Lochaber area of the Scottish Highlands.

Rescuers included a Coast Guard helicopter and members of the Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team. The injured climbers were rescued and transferred to ambulances that took them to the Belford Hospital. According to news reports, all of the climbers are in stable condition.

The reports that “HM Coastguard said the avalanche was in Coire na Ciste, on the north face of Ben Nevis.

The Scottish Avalanche Information Center rated the avalanche danger on 4 February 2017 in Lochaber as Considerable.

At 1345 meters (4413′) Ben Nevis is the highest mountain in the British Isles.
