Carja Peak, Romania – On Friday, December 1, 2017 an avalanche killed a 38-year-old man from Bucharest on 2405-meter Carja Peak in the Parang Mountains of Central Romania.
The avalanche caught the group of mountaineers by surprise. Luckily, the majority of the group was able to escape the slide. One man was dragged about 1000 meters down a narrow and steep gully.
Rescuers found him buried about a meter deep. Once recovered, he did not have any signs of life. It is believe he suffered damage to his cervical spine and chest.
The group was warned that the avalanche conditions were dangerous in the area.
