Young Mountaineer Killed In Avalanche On Mont Blanc Massif (UPDATED)


Mont Blanc Massif, France – On Monday, October 23, 2017 19-year-old Tom Carsolio, from Les Contamines, was killed in an avalanche under the Durier Hut (3358 meters) near the Col de Miage (3367 meters) on the Mont Blanc Massif in the Haute-Savoie region of France.

According to, the avalanche was trigged at 3200 meters and carried Carsolio about 200 meters. Carsolio was with a climbing partner at the time of the incident. His partner was uninjured and gave first aid and CPR to the victim.

PGHM was alerted about the incident around 10:00. Due to bad weather, they had to approach on foot and did not reach the climbers until 18:30. Unfortunately Carsolio did not survive. The partner descended with the rescuers.
