Darchula, Nepal – On Thursday, June 1, 2017 an avalanche struck a group of yarsagumba harvesters in the Himalaya Mountains in the Darchula District in northwestern Nepal.
Six people were injured in the avalanche. One collector was killed and another is in serious condition at the hospital in Gokuleshwor. The victim was identified as Dhaul Singh Bohara, 48.
Yarsagumba is a caterpillar fungus known for its medicinal and aphrodisiac properties. It is commonly referred to as “Himalayan Viagra.” According to the TheHimalayanTimes.com, it is “one of the most expensive bio-resources available in the world.” It is collected at a commercial level in 12 districts in Nepal.
