François D’Haene Sets New Speed Record On John Muir Trail

John Muir Trail – On 17 October 2017, French Ultra Runner François D’Haene, 31, set a new speed record on the John Muir Trail in the Sierra Mountains of California. He completed  the entire trail in 2 days, 19 hours, 26 minutes.

The John Muir Trail covers 210 miles (359 kms) and 48,000′ of elevation gain as it travels south to north along California’s Eastern Sierra. The trail starts at the base of Mount Whitney and ends in the north at Happy Isles in Yosemite Valley.

François D’Haene used 5 pace setters to keep his time and to refuel along the route as it weaves through Yosemite, Kings Canyon, and Sequoia National Parks.

The previous FKT on the John Muir Trail was held by American Leor Panitlat who completed the entire John Muir Trail in 3 days, 7 hours, 36 minutes.
